Bertie Stuurman hails from Pellsrus in Jeffrey's Bay and has had to fight hard to achieve his dream of becoming an established surfer. His runner up spot behind Strachan and his defeat of some of South Africa's top Under 20 surfers in the earlier rounds of the event is a credit to his dedication and determination and his coach, EP Surfing President Etienne Venter, must be bursting with pride.
